About the project

Space stories for families who like asking “why?”

Gavin Goes Galactic brings together fictional space adventures, straightforward planet science and activities that children can explore with the grown-ups around them.

Who the site is for

The characters and stories are designed to interest young explorers. The guides, source notes and activity prompts are also for parents, carers and educators who want a little more context or a way to keep the conversation going after a story.

Families can read the story previews, learn about the crew, try the browser activities and follow the linked field guides. The site does not require an account to use its pages or activities.

Story and science are labelled separately

Gavin, Denny and their missions are fictional. Planet details are factual claims, and our field guides link to the primary science sources used to check them. We simplify language for a family audience while keeping important distinctions, such as the difference between Mercury's spin and its long solar day.

When new evidence changes a guide, we will revise the explanation and update its review date. The date and references appear with each guide so grown-ups can see what was checked.

How we prepare a planet guide

  1. Start with a question a young explorer might naturally ask.
  2. Check the answer against primary sources, such as NASA mission or planet science pages.
  3. Explain the idea in clear language, then add a family question or safe activity where it helps understanding.
  4. Link the sources and record when we last checked them.

Our guides are educational introductions, not a replacement for the full scientific sources they cite.

About the videos and affiliate links

Some animation clips are made with Higgsfield. The site includes a clearly labelled affiliate link. If an adult uses that link, Gavin Goes Galactic may earn a commission at no extra cost to them. Affiliate links do not change the science or story content.
